Lunakinetic: Gloetrope
An aim to aid in the creation of a series of 'gloetropes' with Lunakinetic, these will redefine how analog animation can be used as an immersive experience and to engage the public.
The successful operation of the 3D gloetropes requires the participation of spectators using a hand crank that will rotate each mechanism. Part of the activity and challenge is to adjust the timing and speed so that the strobe light can synchronise effectively and give spectators the illusion of movement.
Each gloetrope will create the illusion of an illuminated drawing or 3D object suspended in dark space. When the zoetrope is in action, the illuminated image will become animated.
Combining the theme of flight with light and shadow, the series of gloetropes will determine a different form of flight.
Lunakinetic are an establishing art collective succeeded by Technology and Arts Technician Remee Crawford and Visual Arts lecturer / Animator Anita Shukla.
